Islamist insurgents have issued an ultimatum to northern Iraq’s dwindling Christian population to either convert to Islam, pay a religious levy or face death, according to a statement distributed in the militant-controlled city of Mosul.

The statement issued by the Islamic State, the al Qaeda offshoot which led last month’s lightning assault to capture swathes of north Iraq, and seen by Reuters, said the ruling would come into effect on Saturday.

It said Christians who wanted to remain in the “caliphate” that the Islamic State declared this month in parts of Iraq and Syria must agree to abide by terms of a “dhimma” contract – a historic practice under which non-Muslims were protected in Muslim lands in return for a special levy known as “jizya”.

  1. I predict that every Christian in that land will either die or leave. Those martryed will be talking to Christ. Because they have earned their place in what happens after we die.
I predict that when the last Christian leaves that land the place will fall upon the curse of God.
For the only thing staying the hand of God is the Christians in the line of fire.
These same Moslem people are making fun of those that believe in Christ. And well they should while they can. WHEN not IF what I have predicted occurs, they are doomed and they are too ignorant to understand that. I look at it as casting pearls before swine.
There was a reason why leaders protected their Christian populations. Some of those same leaders did not even exclude their own flesh and blood from punishment when necessary. So why protect those Christians? I say they knew something that others did not. Despite what they think of Christians, those innocent lambs are what is keeping the wrath of God from happening.
I can imagine what Jesus is saying to his Father in Heaven. How long? When may I return to take my followers to a safe place?
And the Father is cautioning patience once again.
Only when the time is right will the Father act on behalf of his Son.
I do not want to be in the way of that Wrath. Vengence is mine says the Lord.
I think the greatest blessing one can ask for in this life is when it ends it ends without pain.
The second greatest is to be taken to heaven to be with Jesus. Hopefully we will all be there someday.
