US-made Stinger missiles have likely fallen into ISIS hands, officials say

Stinger Missile - Public Domain

U.S. officials with access to the latest U.S. intelligence on Iraq told Fox News it “appears likely/probable” that U.S.-made Stinger missiles have fallen into the hands of Sunni insurgents.

It is possible that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters acquired them from army bases they have taken over in recent days, the sources said.
The Stinger missile is a shoulder-fired surface-to-air weapon that is used against aircraft.

Massive Explosion On Major Natural Gas Pipeline In Ukraine – Prelude To War?

Natural Gas Pipleline Explosion In Ukraine - YouTube

An explosion has struck a pipeline in the central Ukrainian Poltava region. Witnesses say flames from the blast are up to 200 meter high.

“The explosion occurred at about 14:45 local time in a field,” the local police press-service said in a statement. Due to the “flame and the high temperatures,” it was “impossible to get closer to the epicenter.”

The “Brotherhood” natural gas pipeline (Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod) is about one kilometer away from the nearest settlement. No injuries have been reported from the blast. Fire fighting crews have been deployed to the scene.

The blaze, which according to the Interior Ministry towered 100 meters high, was put out by “between 4 and 5 pm.”

Marines, US Warships Head Toward Iraq

USS Mesa Verde - Public Domain

About 100 Marines and Army troops were deployed to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad today and four warships steamed towards Iraq as tensions rose due to the advance of a radical Islamic insurgency.

The U.S. took the additional precautions as ISIS – the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria – expanded its territory in Iraq by capturing the city of Tal Afar, which is west of Mosul. In addition, fresh details emerged of a massacre carried out by ISIS, including top Muslim clerics who refused to pledge loyalty to the fanatic Islamic group.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and two other ships from the northern Arabian Sea and it has arrived in the Persian Gulf as President Obama considers possible military options for Iraq. A fourth ship, the amphibious ship USS Mesa Verde, was ordered into the Persian Gulf today.

Iraq digs in for the Battle of Baghdad

Humvees of the new Iraqi Army - Public Domain

By last night, they had reached the town of Balad, just 55 miles north of Baghdad, and the battle rages there, as Iraq’s leaders bid to save the capital from being overrun, as many other Iraqi cities already have.

As the battle for Baghdad loomed, the U.S. yesterday ordered aircraft carrier George H W Bush to move to the Persian Gulf for possible air strikes against the militants, while Iranian president Hassan Rouhani suggested the two traditional enemies may work together to defend Iraq, saying: ‘When the U.S. takes action against [the militants], then one can think about cooperation.’

At a checkpoint near his base at Camp Taji on the Baghdad-Samarra Highway, Lt Omar al-Saadi shouted down to me yesterday. ‘Things are very bad up there but we are ready for it. This is our country and our people. We can defeat the terrorists,’ he said.

Several armoured Jeeps and Hummers donated by the American military were being towed, disabled in fire-fights with jihadists who have seized tanks, weapons and even Hummers as their spoils of war in Mosul and Tikrit.

A blow by blow account of how Islamist militants outnumbered 20-to-1 by the army cut through huge swathes of Iraq

Iraq - Public Domain

The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) grew out of Al Qaeda In Iraq, a militant group that emerged in the chaos engulfing the country after the 2003 invasion.

They rebranded themselves after the Syrian uprising, attracting foreign fighters and controlling areas with extreme brutality, such as beheadings and crucifixions.

Now even Al Qaeda thinks they are too violent.

What do they want?

A calpihate – a single Islamic state spread across large chunks of Syria and Iraq, based on the harshest interpretation of Sharia law. It includes ordering women to stay at home, amputating the hands of thieves, destroying religious shrines, and outlawing music.

U.S., UK create joint team to prepare for air strikes in Iraq

F-18 from the Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California - Public Domain

Over a decade after the US and UK invaded Iraq in 2003, the military allies have created a joint ‘counter-terrorist’ team to send to the country. British officers are already on their way “to prepare for possible air strikes,” The Sunday Times reports.

SAS [Special Air Service of the British Army] officers were on their way to Iraq this weekend to prepare the ground for possible air strikes. Senior defence sources confirmed that military personnel were part of a joint British and American “counter-terrorist” team ordered in on Friday by William Hague, the foreign secretary, and John Kerry, the US secretary of state. The team is understood to include MI6 operatives as well as high-ranking special forces officers,” The Sunday Times reported.

The mission might be a result of “options” considered by US President Barack Obama, which he announced in an earlier statement. Air strikes and the use of drones were among the range of possible military options, and the paper confirmed that, saying that SAS “task will be to identify possible targets before Obama decides whether to commit American air power.”

China Surpasses The U.S. With $14 Trillion In Corporate Debt

China vs. America - Photo by Wangdora92

Chinese companies borrow more than their American counterparts as the world’s second-largest economy takes center stage in corporate-debt markets.

Borrowers from China had $14.2 trillion in debt at the end of last year, exceeding every other country including the U.S., which had $13.1 trillion in company obligations, according to a report dated June 15 by Standard & Poor’s. Needs of Chinese issuers will increase to $20 trillion through the end of 2018, a third of the $60 trillion in global funding needs.

Borrowings in the Asia-Pacific region will overtake both North America and Europe by 2016 as China and neighboring countries widen their lead as the world’s largest group of corporate borrowers, according to S&P. Bonds (BCOR), as opposed to loans, will also become a more important source of financing, increasing 3.5 percent, or almost $3.1 trillion.

Obama Considers Sending ‘Small Number’ Of U.S. Soldiers To Iraq

Barack Obama And The Troops

The White House is considering sending a small number of American special forces soldiers to Iraq in an urgent attempt to help the government in Baghdad slow the nation’s rampant Sunni insurgency, U.S. officials said Monday.

While President Barack Obama has explicitly ruled out putting U.S. troops into direct combat in Iraq, the plan under consideration suggests he would be willing to send Americans into a collapsing security situation for training and other purposes.

Three U.S. officials familiar with ongoing discussions said the potential of sending special forces to Iraq is high on a list of military options that are being considered.

Rampaging Jihadists Kill Dozens in Kenya

Kenya Jihadists

Terrorists from al-Shabaab, the Somali al-Qaeda affiliate, attacked the small Kenyan coastal town of Mpeketoni near the tourist center of Lamu on Sunday and killed 48 people, according to officials in the east African nation.

Men watching the World Cup at a hotel were systematically executed while women were forced to watch, according to Kenya police commander David Kimaiyo. The terrorists said the execution was in response to the activity of Kenyan troops in Somalia. Kenya has sent troops there to counter al-Shabaab kidnappings and attacks.

Like Nairobi’s Westgate Mall attack last year, the Mpeketoni attackers reportedly gave life-or-death religious tests.

Russia Cuts Off Natural Gas To Ukraine

Vladimir Putin

Russia on Monday cut gas supplies to Ukraine as a payment deadline passed and negotiators failed to reach a deal on gas prices and unpaid bills amid continued fighting in eastern Ukraine.

The decision does not immediately affect the gas flow to Europe, but could disrupt the long-term energy supply to the region if the issue remains unresolved, analysts said.

Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said that since Ukraine had failed to pay anything for the gas by Monday, from now on the company would demand advance payment for any future deliveries.

Russia on Iraq: ‘We told you so’

Iraq - Public Domain

As the situation in Iraq begins to looks more and more like a complete state meltdown, Russia has stepped in with a familiar refrain: “We told you so.”

“We are greatly alarmed by what is happening in Iraq. We warned long ago that the affair that the Americans and the Britons stirred up there wouldn’t end well,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday, according to Voice of Russia. He also described the Iraq war as a “total failure” and said Russia was sorry that its forecasts had come true.

It’s hard to deny that Russia was vocal in saying that the Iraq war was a bad idea. In March 2003, just as the invasion began, Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly criticized it. It was the “most serious crisis the world has faced since the Cold War,” he told the Duma, adding that the fighting would be “fierce” and “drawn out.”

Obama Blames Israel For Why There Is No Peace In The Middle East

Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - Public Domain

The gloves are off. The White House has now unequivocally designated Israel as the scapegoat and is meting out punishment for the disastrous outcome of the peace negotiations it initiated.

The process began in March when President Barack Obama publicly lambasted Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in a brutal and offensive manner the day before their scheduled meeting in Washington. It climaxed last week when the White House reneged on its commitment to Israel, announcing that it would continue business as usual with the new PA government after the merger with the genocidal Hamas, the terrorist organization which remains utterly committed to the destruction of Israel.

Prior to this, administration spokesmen had been campaigning behind the scenes to undermine the standing of Israel with the American public. That Israel had frozen settlement construction for nine months and conceded to an abhorrent release of Palestinian terrorists with blood on their hands were facts they simply ignored. Conversely, the Palestinian refusal to make a single concession or agree under any circumstances to an end of conflict was rarely mentioned.

Iraq’s leader directed his troops to make their stand against advancing Sunni militants in a flashpoint city home to a revered Shiite mosque, an order that highlights the sectarian fighting tearing the country apart.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s order came as he sought to put new fire in the belly of his troops in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria — an al Qaeda splinter group known as ISIS — that has seized a large swath of land in the north of the country and threatened to advance on the capital.

“Samarra will be the starting point, the gathering station of our troops to cleanse every inch that was desecrated by footsteps of those traitors,” al-Maliki said in remarks broadcast Saturday.

Pentagon: Iraqi rebels may have captured US military equipment

Humvees of the new Iraqi Army - Public Domain

The Pentagon Thursday said Islamic militants in Iraq might have captured U.S. equipment and vehicles as an al-Qaeda-linked group advanced toward Baghdad.

Members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which has seized control of two major cities, have been posting pictures on Twitter, claiming to have taken equipment given or sold by the U.S. to the Iraqi army.

A defense official said claims that the group had captured a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter were wrong, but that Humvees and armored vehicles might have fallen into the militants’ hands.

“I don’t have any indication that the reports of them getting Humvees from Mosul are false,” said the official.

Black al-Qaeda Flags Over Mosul as Caliphate Edicts Rule Iraqi Lives

ISIS Flag In Iraq

The Islamist militants who swept into Mosul had a simple message for residents of the northern Iraqi city: The path to a caliphate comes with clear rules. Lots of them.

No smoking, drinking or drugs; prayer times should be respected. Women must stay indoors, or, if they have to go out, then respectable, baggy clothes are a must. Thieves will have their hands amputated. The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant posted the guidelines on June 12 on websites used by jihadist groups. To cement its message, it hung the group’s black banner from a Mosul bridge and uploaded videos to the Internet showing what happens to “anyone who insists on apostasy” — execution.

Obama Facilitates The Rise Of The Caliphate

Obama socialism

What do you do to the enemy? Cut their heads off and crucify em… And that is exactly what ISIS and their barbaric army are doing in Iraq on their march to Baghdad. The Caliphate has risen and surged with the direct assistance of Barack Obama, who has been arming them and supporting them. Our boys and girls died for nothing – they died for a treasonous leader to turn and extend the hand of Muslim Brotherhood to the most violent extremists on the planet.

Obama is making faint sounds of intervention, but they are toothless and insincere as always. Witness ‘Obama The Weak’ per Allen West:

There is no doubt we are watching something happening in Iraq that is far more horrific than the fall of Saigon and will rival the killing fields of Pol Pot.

Indeed it will as the Islamic hordes sweep thru Iraq killing, raping and pillaging in the name of Allah, driving slaves and concubines forward to serve. If you kill one or two, you are a mass murderer… If you kill hundreds of thousands or millions, the world stands in awe and seems to say ‘well done.’ Picture this… thousands of Christians, Jews and Muslims fleeing for their very lives with families in tow and what little they can carry — literally running from the oncoming Army of Allah and being mowed down as they cry out and weep. Visualize thousands of corpses of police, military and civilians decapitated and crucified along their path. It’s worthy of The Stand. Recently ISIS (Levant) leaders imposed punitive rules on the Christian population, demanding that they pay a levy of gold for ‘protection,’ or else face being killed on the streets for their faith.

Alarmed by Iraq, Iran open to shared role with U.S. – Iran official

Shi’te Muslim Iran is so alarmed by Sunni insurgent gains in Iraq that it may be willing to cooperate with Washington in helping Baghdad fight back, a senior Iranian official told Reuters.

The idea is being discussed internally among the Islamic Republic’s leadership, the senior Iranian official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. The official had no word on whether the idea had been raised with any other party.

Officials say Iran will send its neighbor advisers and weaponry, although probably not troops, to help its ally Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki check what Tehran sees as a profound threat to regional stability, officials and analysts say.

Iraq crisis: Baghdad prepares for the worst as Islamist militants vow to capture the capital

Insurgents - Public Domain

Iraq is breaking up. The Kurds have taken the northern oil city of Kirkuk that they have long claimed as their capital. Sunni fundamentalist fighters vow to capture Baghdad and the Shia holy cities further south.

Government rule over the Sunni Arab heartlands of north and central Iraq is evaporating as its 900,000-strong army disintegrates. Government aircraft have fired missiles at insurgent targets in Mosul, captured by Isis on Monday, but the Iraqi army has otherwise shown no sign of launching a counter-attack.

The nine-year Shia dominance over Iraq, established after the US, Britain and other allies overthrew Saddam Hussein, may be coming to an end. The Shia may continue to hold the capital and the Shia-majority provinces further south, but they will have great difficulty in re-establishing their authority over Sunni provinces from which their army has fled.

United States quietly sending in troops to train former Soviet bloc states

U.S. Soldiers

As the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) refocuses on its eastern borders after Russia’s annexation of Crimea, the US is quietly deploying more troops to train special forces in former Soviet bloc states anxious about Moscow’s intentions.

Major exercises began last month in Poland, Slovakia and the Baltic states of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia involving several hundred personnel from US special forces, the US European Command (Eucom) said.

Long-term plans include further training drills that will consistently keep about 100 US elite troops on the ground at any one time in Nato states close to Russia, with teams working in several countries, US officials said.

The events in eastern Ukraine, where Russian-speaking insurgents using sophisticated weapons threaten to split the country, have put the whole former Soviet bloc region on alert and eager for Nato reassurance.

Palestinian Authority Designed New Hamas-Backed Gov’t Around ‘Loopholes’ to Keep U.S. Foreign Aid Coming

Young Russians yearn for the glory days of the Soviet Union

Russian Boy

The Soviet Union used to command respect on the international stage. It stood toe to toe with the United States. It wielded its influence in the far corners of the globe. Oksana Chernysheva, a first-year journalism student at the International University in Moscow, shares the view of her President, Vladimir Putin: the collapse of the Soviet Union was a disaster.

“We used to be huge and strong, and then it collapsed,” she said. But what for the 61-year-old Mr Putin amounts to an acute sense of lost glory is for Ms Chernysheva, 18, an opinion based almost entirely on wistful tales handed down by nostalgic parents. She was born five years after the Soviet Union fell apart.

Mr Putin’s moves this year to annex Crimea and to support pro-Russian movements in Ukraine appear to have resonated with a younger generation that has no memory of the Soviet Union but yearns for its power.

Does ‘Putin’s Brain’ Believe That The United States Is The Kingdom Of Antichrist?

Alexander Dugin

Alexander Dugin, the man known as “Putin’s Brain“, believes that the U.S.-led New World Order is the “kingdom of the Antichrist” and that it is inevitable that it will be destroyed someday.  His version of Neo-Eurasianism envisions an inevitable conflict between Eurasia (dominated by Russia) and the Atlanticist New World Order of the western world during which the forces of global liberal hegemony will be defeated.  In simpler terms, he is fundamentally convinced that someday there will be a major war between Russia and the United States which Russia will win.  Before you dismiss Dugin as a “nutjob”, you should be aware that he is a professor at the top university in Russia, he is a frequent guest on all of the top Russian television networks, and his books are extremely influential.  Dugin’s writing about Eurasia was making waves long before Putin took office or ever came up with the idea for a “Eurasian Union“.  If you want to be honest about it, much of what Putin is promoting now had its genesis in the work of Alexander Dugin.
