Billy Graham: America is Just as Wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah Ever Were

Reverend Billy Graham, arguably the most well-known and respected evangelical preacher of the last 50 years, said in a recently published commentary that America was “founded by men who believed in prayer” and that prayer can turn “the tide of history,” adding that while “America is just as wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah” and deserves “the judgment of God,” this judgment can be lessened through prayer.

“Even though America is just as wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah ever were, and as deserving of the judgment of God, God would spare us if we were earnestly praying, with hearts that had been cleansed and washed by the blood of Christ,” said Rev. Graham in his commentary for Decision magazine, published by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

“The problems of the world will never be settled unless our national leaders go to God in prayer,” he said. “If only they would discover the power and wisdom that there is in reliance upon God, we could soon see the solution to the grave problems that face the world!”

    • Tim, I think a point needs to be made here that no one is a *great* evangelical, in the sense of being morally infallible, and that all of us are marred by sin. Every preacher (and even person) is going to fall short at times and let us down.

Not sure if you’re a saved Christian. But if you are, I would urge you to harbor an attitude of grace towards the leaders God has chosen over His Church. If you think the average person has a hard time resisting temptation and sin, imagine how utterly intensified that becomes as one attempts to draw closer to Jesus Christ and pursue a path in ministry.

      • Adam,

I’m a Christian, and I appreciate your admonition to be more gracious toward others. I know that none of us are perfect. I am far from perfect. As Christians we still have the old sin nature, and therefore we will continue to struggle with sin until the day of our glorification. That said, a lot of Christians, let alone unbelievers, have been deceived by Billy Graham. Have you read Cathy Burns’ book, Adam? If not, you should as you’ll see that Billy Graham is a false prophet. Everything Burns states in her book is documented. Adam, do you believe what Roman Catholicism teaches concerning the way of salvation? Billy Graham does. You think I’m making that up? All this information is out there for anyone to see, Adam. Search it out for yourself.

  1. The United States is a nation of leaders we have never really been followers of anyone.. we are a nation of Kings as the founders intended.. every person is born with the status of a ruler over what is given or belongs to him..self determination. and laws that govern and identify the level of liberty one may encounter. .each person is born with the privilege of determining hos own way .very much like what is written in Jeremiah 3I:33 -34 .But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

In the light of that.. The New Covenant that God is speaking of is universal and extended to them whom HE RECOGNIZES
NOT NECESSARILY NATIONS …the people of the United States need only to concern themselves in not being like the fallen before our faces Soviet Union; of the self righteous hypocritical nations who try and define how other nations ought to behave with regards to their own internal conditions when they do not spill over into others …
