A massive movement to defund Planned Parenthood is sweeping the country in response to a video showing the group’s Senior Director of Medical Services explaining how Planned Parenthood harvests aborted baby organs for profit.
The movement has attracted the support of several Republican presidential candidates, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who called the video “sickening.”
“There is no place for taxpayer funding of organizations that profit from taking away innocent life, much less profiting off the bodies of the lives they have stolen,” he wrote in a statement. “Congress should immediately begin an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s activities regarding the sale and transfer of aborted body parts, including who is obtaining them and what they are being used for.”
“And it should renew efforts to fully defund Planned Parenthood to ensure that its morally bankrupt business receives not one penny of taxpayer money.”
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) echoed a similar sentiment.
“It’s time for pro-lifers to take a stand,” he stated in a campaign e-mail to supporters. “It’s time to defund Planned Parenthood.”
The now-viral video, released by the pro-life Center for Medical Progress, shows Planned Parenthood’s Senior Director of Medical Services Dr. Deborah Nucatola sipping a glass of wine while casually saying she charges $30 to $100 for fetal “specimens,” adding that “a lot of people want intact hearts these days” as well as lungs and “lower extremities.”
“You know, we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m going to basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact,” she said, describing how Planned Parenthood alters its abortion procedures to harvest the organs highest in demand.
