‘Flash mob’ of 60 teens loot, damage Philadelphia Walgreens and injure employees

(By Sean Walton) Some 60 teens caused some $7,000 in damage and losses as a flash mob took over a Pa. Walgreens and a cashier was hit over the head in the process, police say.

It happened around 10 p.m. on July 4 in Philadelphia, but police just released the store surveillance video from the South Street Walgreens pharmacy in hopes of identifying and arresting some of the accused looters.

Police said the employees suffered injuries, including a cashier who attempted to intervene and was hit on a head with a glass bottle.

The teens also knocked items from shelves, and then stole merchandise.

The teens also were caught on external video surveillance stopping traffic and running along the street in the area around the store..

Police are asking for tips in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call 215-686-3013/3014, ext. 741.

“Occupy ICE” protesters have set up a new camp at Philadelphia City Hall, and the mayor says they can stay

(The Inquirer) A day after Philadelphia police swept away their encampment outside the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Center City, opponents of the Trump administration’s immigration policies set up a new protest camp at City Hall. It was a move to get Mayor Kenney’s attention, as the people of “Occupy ICE” grew angrier at the mayor for allowing police to destroy their camp.

About two dozen protesters slept in makeshift tents constructed out of beach umbrellas duct-taped to tarps — organizers say police told them no tents were allowed — and plan to occupy this space outside City Hall until their demands are met.

Approximately 30 people are arrested on the streets of Philadelphia after ICE protesters violently clash with police

Protesters were pictured locking arms in front of the doors as cops desperately tried to shift them following a whole day of peaceful protests.

The demonstrations had gone ahead peacefully for 16 hours on Tuesday until police decided to try and reopen the ICE center.

Distressing photos emerging from the protests show police officers hauling those who resisted away and forcing them into handcuffs as tensions reached fever pitch among the gathered crowd. (Daily Mail)

Mosque Leaders In Philadelphia Accused of Trying to Cut Off Worshiper’s Hand With 2-Foot Machete

Philadelphia

The emir of a Philadelphia mosque was thrown in jail after police said he and the mosque’s imam tried to cut off a man’s hand with a 2-foot machete, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

A prayer service had just ended at the Al-Masjid Ur-Razzaq Ul-Karim mosque Monday morning when Merv Mitchell, the mosque’s emir — along with the mosque’s imam, whose name was not released — confronted a man who usually helps organize prayer services, said police Lt. John Walker.

Mitchell and the imam accused the 46-year-old man of stealing jars of money from the mosque, Walker said. The man denied the accusation, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Police said he was dragged down a set of steps in the building to the back yard.

“They threw the victim to the ground and held his right arm against a log,” Walker said. ”One of the offenders grabbed a machete from inside the mosque, and struck the victim near his wrist. The blade cut through some of his tendons.”
